The five
pristine beaches along the Atlantic ocean side of "The Hook" provide
excellent swimming and surf fishing on the peninsula. Sunbathing
and swimming at "North Beach" is quite spectacular with the skyline
of NYC in the background. For the perfect picnic make sure you
request the "GrandLady Beach Lunch", and because it's a Federal
Park there are no regulations against bringing your own beer
- just no glass containers, and please observe the take in, take
out park policy with regard to trash. We love our beaches.
Sandy Hook Lighthouse
Besides its natural aspects, Sandy Hook also offers many historic
sites. The lighthouse, dating back to 1764, is the nation's
oldest in continuous operation. Fort Hancock is the last of
several forts erected on Sandy Hook to protect the shipping
channels into New York harbor. Sandy Hook is a popular stop
for bikers, hikers, and bird watchers. |
